Thanks for visiting the page!
Swimming the Channel has been my dream for many years and this year I have the opportunity to fulfil that goal. Between the 19th and 24th July (depending on the weather) I will be swimming the 21 miles / 34km stretch between England and France wearing only swimming costume, hat and goggles.
I want to take the opportunity of this endeavour to support a charity that has helped my family a lot in recent years. In the summer of 2013, my mum had a stroke. It was a shock to everyone; she had always been active, fit and healthy. Particularly the first weeks after having the stroke and coming home from hospital were a time that took a lot of energy and effort. Both during the time in hospital and once at home the work of the Stroke Association made a huge difference. The information provided gave my mum, and the family, an idea of what could be expected during the recovery process and the visits by the volunteers was a great form of support. A stroke is a life changing event, yet I am very proud that through perseverance and hard work my mum is now again able to do all the things that she could before.
The work that the Stroke Association does to help families like mine after someone has had a stroke, as well as furthering research into prevention and rehabilitation is really great. Please join me in supporting this very worthwhile cause.
