Story
Hi Everyone
I'll be taking part in the Deloitte/Cisco cycling around Britain Tour which aims to raise money for the British Paralympics Association and London 2012. I will not be taking part in the 9 days of cycling but I have committed to a self flagellating, painful, horrifying 220 miles (180Km aprox.. 7-10 hours nonstop!!) one day cycling on the 18th -19th of June 2011 from Bath to LandsEnd…and I just been told that it has plenty of hills so it will not be a walk in the park…
So please dig into your pockets and support the Paralympics 2012 with USD, GBP, EUR or Japanese YEN (Portuguese/Greek/Irish/Icelandic Government Bonds not accepted)…for this wonderful event.. If you want to see me suffering , well plenty of time to start saving for the joy of my sweat…( I am not sure if that sounded right or not).
With a home Games in London 2012, ParalympicsGB have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a lasting impact on attitudes towards disability and importantly to inspire more people with a disability to get in to sport. |
§ When people watch Paralympic sport, they see past the disability and find themselves engrossed in elite, competitive and inspirational sport. It's this power of the Paralympics that enables people to change the way they think, feel and behave towards disability. |
§ In order to inspire change, it's essential that the British team perform well. After Beijing, the most successful British team of all time came back to a heroes welcome and the greatest interest and support for Paralympic sport ever seen. Yet how many people can name a Paralympian or know how successful our athletes were? There is still a long way to go. |
§ ParalympicsGB receive no funding for it's core activities, and so have to raise funds to ensure the British team receive the preparations they need and deserve to perform at their best when it matters most. Training camps, medical provisions, transportation, kit, media training - just a few of the elements ParalympicsGB has to provide to prepare the British team for the Paralympic Games and remove the pressures of a home Games. |
§ ParalympicsGB will be taking Britain's biggest ever Paralympic team to compete in London, with over 300 athletes compared to just over 200 in Beijing. |
