Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Whenever I think about who I want to be I know I want to be someone who makes a difference.
So, when Nadine Heubel (Gebr Heinemann), Rowena Holland (Essential Communications) asked me if I’d do a 10k fun run for The Smile Train my first thought was, ‘There’s certainly nothing fun about running 10k’.
In fact I had no idea what 10k was (of course now I know it’s 6.2 miles).
Then I thought about the difference I knew I could make in so many children’s lives and I knew that I’d be running with them!
This is a massive personal challenge, which has totally energized me to help us raise as much money as we possibly can for The Smile Train.
And it’s not going to be easy.
I was always the last one to be picked in any school sports team (sad but true).
Even running for a bus would leave me out of breath (ok, so I don’t really ‘do’ buses).
But that age old phrase ‘As unfit as you or I’ certainly applied to me.
They say, we should do something every day that scares us.
Well, the thought of running 10k terrifies me! But just thinking about how $250 can change a child’s life forever gets me out there pushing myself a bit further every day.
Just in case you don’t already know, The Smile Train is the world’s largest and most effective cleft charity. Since March 2000 it has provided free cleft surgery for over 300,000 children, particularly in emerging countries where parents are unable to fund the operation. For as little as $250, and in as little as 45 minutes, this true, modern-day medical miracle can change a child’s life forever.
So please, dig deep and help me make that difference.
Thank you
Mandy
