A final final update!!!
Thanks to past Rochester Tablers (PORTS) and past Ladies Circlers (MOULDIES) who, at their Christmas dinner, gave nearly £200 to ensure the total amount raised went over £5000. That's waht friends are all about - thanks everyone.
A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE including Wyvern Shipping at Leighton Buzzard, Maureen and her staff at The Old Plough at Braunston, friends and family and work colleagues.
The generosity of people we met on the towpath was amazing - from fellow boaters we accompanied in locks to the lovely ladies in a boat going the opposite direction on Tring Summit who nearly got all the money in the bucket as they went the other way, and to fellow towpath walkers and onlookers!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.
My late wife, Honny, lived with multiple myeloma for over 7 years. She joined the local Macmillan fundraising committee for the new cancer unit at Medway Maritime Hospital where she worked and became an outpatient and inpatient over those 7 years, latterly becoming one of the first patients in the new Lawrence Ward.
We shared a love of boating for over 40 years and I thought it a fitting tribute if I could raise some funds for the charity she became involved with by using our narrowboat to help me walk the Grand Union Canal from London to Coventry.
