I'm a 71 year old cyclist I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in November 2008 after agreeing to take part in a voluntary study into the disease.

Since diagnosis I am on the ProtecT moninitoring system and checked every 3 months for any changes that may occur they take a blood sample called PSA test.

My challenge is to ride 'Les Cingles Du Mont Ventoux' in late June the ride consists of 3 ascents up Mont Ventoux known as the 'Giant of Provence' via the 3 main routes Bedoin, Malaucene, & Sault it has to be done on the same day and consists of 136kms and 4443mtrs of vertical climbing.

Les Cingles translated is Nuts/Crazy ''nuts is the one who climbs the Ventoux, but really nuts is the one who does it again''

The Ventoux has never been kind to anyone the Mistral a very strong wind, cold, heat, thunderstorms are all to be expected more often than not.

Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer in men over 50 if caught early can be controlled or treated surgically or radiotherapy, my advice to anyone who may suspect they have a problem get it checked out ASAP by having a PSA test done at your GP's.
