Story
Due to the ongoing devastation that is taking place in Japan, I have set up a fund raising campaign to help raise money for The British Red Cross. They have become under a lot of pressure as they work with the Japanese Red Cross providing healthcare, support staff and teams to asses the damage and needs of the communities affected – therefore need as much support as possible.
The Red Cross have already mobilized 86 medical teams to assist in temporary centres that have been set up in schools and public buildings housing more than 500,000 of the victims left homeless.
The idea of my campaign is very simple, yet hopefully effective. I am encouraging people to make a simple change to their lifestyle and donate the money they are saving to the campaign, for example walking or cycling to work instead of getting the bus, or having a packed lunch instead of buying their lunch (even just for a day or two). I have also suggested that supporters could get together with friends and plan a cheap night in instead of a night out and donate the money they save.
I want people to be inventive with what they do to save money! I would like to stress I am not asking for people to donate money they do not have just simply give up something they do not need (however big or small) and donate the money instead.
Make a SMALL change in your life and make a BIG difference for victims in Japan!
As part of my campaign put together a facebook event set up a twitter trend #makechangeforjapan through my twitter account @JasmineBellPR (so get tweeting) and this just-giving site to make donations safe and simple (donating directly to The Red Cross) for all those who want to get involved. Check out my personal blog, work blog and press cuttings to keep up to date.
Ideas of ways to save money...
Stay in – Organise a house party, dinner party or movie/wii night and donate the money you would usually spend on your night out to charity (asking your friends to do the same). Waking up without a hangover is a plus too!
Or if you do go out you could still donate the money of one less drink, the dirty kebab you could do without or donate the money you end up with at the end of your night.
Make a small change for a week – for example; have packed lunches instead of eating out, if you usually buy a bottled drink or snack during your day, don't (that alone would raise us about £7) Its the small things that make the BIG difference.
Cook instead of having a take away
Walk to work/uni and donate your bus fare
Be inventive and post your ideas online when you donate to give other peoples imagination going. Any small change will make a difference!!!
