Story
We're back! Checkout the facebook page 'magic wand tandem challenge' for pictures, insights, video clips etc.
We completed our non-stop ride on Monday afternoon at 4:41pm having left Cornwall at 5:45am on the Saturday. The sense of achievement is simply immense and this worthwhile cause is all part of this. Headwinds and a bout of illness put paid to a record breaking time although we were on track for many many hours.
The whole team has been humbled by the support we have received via twitter, facebook and text. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
We may have finished our ride, but the work at the hospital continues, so if you admired our effort, it's not to late to demonstrate this through a donation. Thanks a million,
Dom & Ian

It’s a worn out, tired, inappropriate environment in which to provide care for children. And yet, day in, day out the staff in the Children’s Unit at Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
That’s just crazy!
To cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats, the length of mainland Britain is for many the classic long distance cycle challenge. It normally takes between 10 to 12 days. Consultant Paediatrician Ian Rodd and myself (Dom Irvine) are aiming to ride it non-stop in a shade over two days! We've been training hard for ages.
That’s about 835 miles (1533km) without stopping (apart from the odd toilet stop and kit change). To add to the fun, we are going to do it on a tandem, which whilst normally a bit faster than a single rider is much much harder to ride over longer distances with both riders having to work in absolute coordination and harmony even when extremely tired!
How hard can it be?
The record was set in 1966 at 2 days, 2 hours and 14 minutes and a bunch of seconds. This record still stands despite attempts by many seasoned riders and elite.
This is a really serious and tough challenge. We have received fantastic support from family, friends and companies providing equipment and bikes (JDTandems) all of whom have bought into the idea of helping improve the care of children. They are not doing it for their health – they are doing it as a demonstration of the extraordinary things two ordinary people can achieve if you put your mind to it – like raising a lot of money!
And now it’s you!
We need you to join the team making all this happen. We need two things. First – your positive thoughts to help us succeed in their extraordinary ride and a donation to help raise the money needed to achieve an extraordinary result in improving how care is offered to the children served by the hospital.
So click on the link on the link – be part of the success and donate.

You!
