We clear landmines and destroy weapons to save and improve lives worldwide.

Story

I am undertaking to run my first 10k in aid of MAG.

OK, this is the personal bit.  I think anti-personnel mines are amongst the most awful things that man has conceived of.  They invariably maim and kill those who are innocent bystanders; including thousands of children.  The cost of clearing them costs too much for some of the world's poorest  countries, so they remain lurking under the soil waiting for the next person's step.  Donate a little and stop someone losing a leg - it's that simple.

This is the official bit from MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is a neutral and impartial humanitarian organisation clearing the remnants of conflict for the benefit of communities worldwide. MAG is co-laureate of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for its work with the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), which culminated in the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty - the international agreement that bans anti-personnel landmines, sometimes referred to as the Ottawa Convention.

MAG moves into current and former conflict zones to clear the remnants of those conflicts, enabling recovery and assisting the development of affected populations. MAG consults with local communities and works to lessen the threat of death and injury, while releasing reclaimed and safe land and other vital resources back to the local population, helping countries to rebuild and develop their social and economic potential.

Personally,  I find landmines to be among the most abhorrent of all the tools of war - invariably they maim and kill the innocent - and a small donation from you can help continue their clearance.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to MAG and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.  Thank you.

About the charity

Every single day, 13 people are killed or injured because of landmines and other explosive weapons. Half of all civilian casualties are children. MAG finds and destroys these weapons to save lives and rebuild futures; helping people to grow crops, attend school and build homes.
