Story

Unfortunately for Foaly I have made the decision for us both to achieve something with our lives, so I signed us both up to the Wobbleberry Challenge!

The Wobbleberry Challenge was set up in the memory of Hannah Francis a very inspiring eventer who unfortunately lost her life to bone cancer at just 18 years of age. It is best to visit her website that she set up while battling cancer to truly understand how inspirational she was. The website is www.willberrywonderpony.org,which also gives information on where all money raised will be sent.

For the un-horsey followers that we may have, the Wobbleberry Challenge was set up for riders who have never dreamed of doing an event. Eventing consists of the dressage (commonly known as horse dancing), show jumping (jumping over colourful fences in an arena) and finally to top it off cross country (jumping over some rather solid and scary looking jumps and going over ditches). All of this is to be achieved over 80cm fences and by October 2017. For some people that wouldn't be too much of a challenge at all, but Foal and I have a few complications!

The first part of our challenge is actually make Foal a ridden Foal as he is currently unbroken. At 7 years of age that is pretty pathetic you may think (the more horsey followers). So a little background on Foal. He was a rescue who was saved from the clutches of the meat man a number of years ago. In his previous home his owner struggled leading to him to become neglected and a sorry looking state. Being a slow maturing breed combined with a bad start meant that it is only the last year or two that the thought of breaking him in has even been able to enter the frame. Currently his first ridden lesson is booked in with me as the test dummy but this may have to be postponed due to a poorly timed injury to his leg.

The second part of the challenge is that myself as the jockey has never evented! So we have a baby horse and uneducated jockey attempting this all in the name of raising money to help combat a terrible disease that ruins far too many lives. So please support us if you can as we would really appreciate all the support we can get. Those close to me will understand my drive to support such a charity and help to kick cancer's butt! Even just some supportive words, or cheerleading will be most appreciated as this is a massive challenge for anyone let alone two complete amateurs! Of course, updates will be provided along the way!
