Story
Hi all,
On Sunday 11th July we will be running the London 10k in aid of the Bhopal Medical Appeal.
25 years ago, in December 1984, India saw the beginning of the worst industrial disaster in history - a catastrophic gas leak from a Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal.
8-10,000 people died within the first 72 hours. Since that day at least another 15,000 people have died as a result of their exposure to the toxic gas and another 120,000 have chronic medical conditions that require constant healthcare.
Today, many thousands of people are still suffering the after effects of the disaster, but their plight is often overshadowed by more recent tragedies, or those closer to home.
The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds the Sambhavna Clinic. Sambhavna is the only place that offers free treatment to anybody affected by the toxic gas or the toxic water. Sambhavna is reliant on donations and any money we raise will be going directly to the clinic. As a benchmark, £35 is all it needs to heal a child and change it´s life. So, if you feel you can donate to this cause, and help us raise our £750 target, that would be fantastic and very much appreciated. You can find out more about the impact of your donation at www.bhopal.org If you would like to help in other ways instead, that would also be great. For example, follow the links on the website to join the Bhopal Medical Appeal facebook page and show your support for their many iniatives. Also, we will be hosting the Bhopal Bus in Waltham Forest between 5th and 9th July and would like as many people as possible to see this, to meet the team and (hopefully) the Sambhavna Clinic Information Officer who is currently trying to arrange to be with us.Finally, here's the official bit from JustGiving: "Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity."
Thanks again,
Emma, Hamish & Lynds x x
