Story
It is with immense pleasure that I announce that Liverpool City Council have agreed to the placing of a ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ plaque in Mathew Street in Liverpool, which as you probably know is the Mecca for fans of the Beatles. The sculptor of the bronze plaque will be Lauren Voiers, who is the young sculptor responsible for the John Lennon Peace monument in Liverpool.
The plaque will read as follows:
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (1963 - 2009)
Lucy was a childhood friend of Julian Lennon. Julian's drawing of Lucy inspired the Lennon/McCartney song on The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club album.
Since Lucy's death from Lupus her family and Julian have worked with the St. Thomas' Lupus Trust to raise awareness of this auto-immune disease and research grants have been set up in her memory.
We thought this would be a great way to remember lovely Lucy and as I’m sure you can appreciate this is a huge historic moment for the St. Thomas’ Lupus Trust and will help raise lupus awareness no end, something I’m sure Lucy would have been thrilled with as she was a staunch supporter of the St. Thomas' Lupus Trust.
This will take place alongside the launch of the ‘Lucy Vodden Lupus Research Fellowship’ a lupus research project in Lucy’s name so all excess funds from the plaque will go towards that project.
If you would like to be part of this historic moment in music and lupus history you can contribute here to the funding of the plaque and the 'Lucy Vodden Research Fellowship'. All donors names will be listed in a commemorative book which will be kept in Liverpool.
