Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2014 I was touched by a little boy, Skye Benjamin Hall, who was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour in 2013 and sadly passed away in August 2014. The story of his and his families strength and fortitude in their battle with this horrendous disease touched me greatly so throughout 2015 I am going to be undertaking the following of challenges.
Reading Vitality Half Marathon (22nd March - DONE!!!), The Cheltenham Challenge Marathon (21st June - DONE!!!), Race to the Stones 100km (11th July - DONE!!!), Kilimanjaro (29th July - 7th August - DONE!! Summitted Successfully!!) & 10 Peak Challenge - 56km, 24hrs, 3000m ascent (5th September), Longmynd Hike, Shropshire (3rd October) - 50miles, 24hrs, alot of bloody awful hills, stages of running, possibly the hardest one of them all without knowing what Kili will be like.
This doesn't take into account the hundreds and hundreds of training miles and spending more time with sheep/cows than humans most weekends, wearing rather questionable attire...
These are all self funded events but I'm hoping along the way to raise money for the charity that Skye and his parents set up http://www.blueskyethinking.org. All monies raised will go direct to the charity.
Brain tumours in children are rare and unfortunately the prognosis is not very good. Current treatment involves surgery, plus a combination of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, but each of these have devastating consequences in terms of side effects. Research is trying to establish new innovative way to treat childhood brain tumours but this requires funding.
Blue Skye Thinking is a charity which supports research so that all children diagnosed with brain tumours will have a better chance of survival and a better quality of life post treatment. The charity is fully run by volunteers and all money donated goes directly to the forefront of Research and Treatment. Please visit their website and get to know Skye through their blogs and videos as I did, and whilst I did not know him personally, its clear to see what an amazing little boy he was.
