Story

My lovely grandaughter Lily was born just over 3 years ago.  She appeared to be a normal, healthy baby and developed as most babies do.  However, all was not well and she had real issues when trying to walk and it was apparent that she had a real problem.

Last year after a series of scans and tests she was diagnosed with Melas syndrome, a rare genetic mitochondrial disorder.  Though she is a happy and cheerful little girl and is developing mentally normally at the moment, she cannot walk and may never be able to, and her future is uncertain.

I have decided to do something positive to mark my 60th birthday and on January 6th, 2013 (one day before the actual day), I am going to play 6 continuous hours of tennis at the White Horse Tennis centre in Abingdon, to raise funds for this wonderful charity which was named after another Lily who sadly died from this disease.

I would so appreciate a donation however small.
