Words from Molly's Dad
It was on Halloween 2012 when I received a call at work from my wife saying Molly, my eldest daughter, was being taken into hospital. They were told to go straight there. No time to get a bag. Do not pass go. And certainly don't collect £200!
She was told she was Type 1 diabetic. I knew little about being diabetic, and, in a way that now makes my blood boil, I thought it was down to her eating too many sweets/having a poor diet. This is not the case with Type 1 and a misconception we are regularly trying to change.
From that phone call, my life and, more importantly, Molly's life, changed forever.
What Molly has to deal with and go through on a daily basis you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. And she deals with it fantastically! Always brave and an inspiration to all that meet her. She has tough days. She has good days but we never know what tomorrow brings. Between us we manage the monster as best we can by counting the carbs she eats and calculating the correct level of insulin that she needs to function.
The 5 injections a day were replace in November by an Insulin pump which is effectively Molly's pancreas, but worn on the outside. This has given her a better approach to life but is still far from 'normal'. Her blood sugar levels will range from 2 (scary) to 26 (huge long term problems). Pizza, her favourite food will, her hit both extremes in the space of 2 hours!
Now the facts without good control Molly faces a shorter life than her peers. Blood sugar levels too low risk coma and seizures Too high, long term complications including loss of limbs, loss of sight and quicker decay of teeth even with regular brushing. She is only just 8.
Diabetes UK use the funds raised to help support individuals with the condition and fund research into finding a cure and improving current treatments.

Team Molly Is A Star is a group of my close friends who have all committed to help raise money in honour of what Molly goes through on a daily basis.
Jane, Molly, Owen, and Libby-Sue are also fundraising.
Jane is opting for a dirtier challenge. On July 12th and September 7th she will be taking part in a Spartan and a Wild Run. Basically, she will be throwing herself through rivers, charging under cargo nets and swinging over mud filled swamps. And the kids?
Well they want to join in the fight and fundraise. So they are doing the kids version of Spartan with Jane in September. Libbys-Sue - aged four, is doing the baby version and the twins are tackling more of a muddier mayhem course.
Molly is terrified, she isn't a fan of filth and worries she won't complete. Once we get her legs out of the plaster casts they are both in at moment for treatment of a different disorder we plan on spending the summer sprinting and lifting.
We are all going to push ourselves to new limits to try and raise as much money for Molly and diabetes.
Please sponsor us, as little as a pound makes a difference.
