Most of you know that since moving to London, I have become a rower. I spend way too much time doing it, much to the detriment of my social life and back.
The site of my club's Boathouse is leased from the London Borough of Hackney...a lease which is due to expire in the next few years. However, the club has the opportunity to secure the lease for the next 99 years by redeveloping the facility to a better standard which will ensure greater community use. But...to do this, money must be raised....£1 million in 12 months! If we don't succeed, the club will be under threat of closure.
We plan on completing the row in 2 boats over 3 days, and after battling tides, locks and the occasional narrowboat, will arrive in Henley while the Henley Royal Regatta is in full swing, to paddle triumphantly down the course! (Hopefully with a Jug of Pimms waiting for us at the finish!)
Your donation will help me keep pushing as my limbs and back start to hurt. Having only rowed about 30 minutes solid at one time, I'll definitely need all motivation I can get...so I don't jump out of the boat and into the support vehicle at my first chance.
Although the LeaRC is set to become a charity in it's own right, there is still a bit of red-tape to get through...so at the moment, we are raising money for Youth Experience in Sport, which give all funds to the redevelopment of the LEA RC.
