Story
This year for Baby Loss Awareness Week, I will be organising a Ribbon Display at the Snowdrop Baby Memorial Garden within Dunfermline Crematorium, KY11 8QR. If you are able, please come along and hang a ribbon. There will be ribbons available in the garden to use, or feel free to bring your own. We'll also have pens available to write messages on the ribbons.

We would be delighted if you felt able to donate any amount at all, even the price of a coffee, to help Sands continue to support families affected by baby loss.
Thank you so much for anything you can donate.

For a reminder of why we're doing this, here's our story so far:
Our son and Matthew's little brother, Adam, was born sleeping on Saturday 31st August 2019, after we were told at our 20 week scan that his heart was no longer beating. We were absolutely devastated. We were fortunate to have access to a quiet room in the hospital specifically for families going through this awful process. We later found out this room was funded by Fife Sands. We were given a pack full of information and also comforted by so many lovely, respectful little touches and mementos that we later found out were also provided by Fife Sands.
In memory of Adam, and to allow us to feel that good may come from his short life, we have pledged, as a family, to raise funds for Sands. We feel so grateful for the support we received that we want to make sure any other families who are unfortunate enough to go through what we have been through will also get support.
Our first fundraiser was Matthew. He dressed as a fire fighter and took part in the Fife Sands Super Star Walk on Saturday 12th October 2019, six weeks after we lost Adam. Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful friends and family Matthew raised £385!!
To start off 2020, Laura ran the Falkirk Epic 10k in Callender Park with her lovely friend Charli. The race took place on 19th January, which is roughly when we expected Adam to be joining our family so this was to honour him and fundraise at the same time. We were delighted to raise £770. Massive thanks to everyone who donated.
Lockdown put a halt to the summer fundraising we had planned, so we decided to hold two online quizzes instead to raise funds and awareness. Thanks to the generosity of friends and family we raised £205. You're all amazing 💞
When we lost Adam, Laura found that writing helped her to connect to her experience and feelings about our loss. She found it therapeutic being able to write it down, and really helpful being able to read my thoughts to other people to help them understand how she was feeling.
From this, came the idea of a booklet of writing about baby loss, with other people touched by baby loss offering their writing to be included as well. And so the booklet 'Love and Pain: words about baby loss' was created. We sold copies for £5 and made just under £200. Thank you to everyone who supported us.
Our rainbow baby Jack was born in 2020 and he has brought so much joy to our lives. We regularly visit the crematorium and talk about their brother Adam. The Snowdrop Baby Memorial Garden, where we have Adam's name inscribed, is a wee haven for us, and feels like the right place to host a ribbon display.
Thank you so much for reading this and for your support.
