Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Strathcarron Hospice cares for people with illnesses that cannot be cured including cancer, respiratory and heart conditions and neurological diseases. It is a charity that provides specialist palliative care free of charge to people in NHS Forth Valley, and to Cumbernauld and Kilsyth in NHS Lanarkshire.
Strathcarron Hospice provides care wherever it is needed. This may be within the hospice in Denny, but also in patients’ homes, in the local hospital Forth Valley Royal Hospital, care homes and community hospital settings. Care is also extended to families and carers. To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Strathcarron has to raise around £3.5 million each year.
Many people think that Strathcarron hospice is fully funded by the NHS, but they receive just 38 pence out of every pound they need from the NHS. The rest depends on you. They need to raise almost £75,000 every week to continue providing free care.
Strathcarron Hospice is a place that is very close to my heart as they provided end of life care for my father John in 1996 and my aunt Carol in 2000. They were both diagnosed with terminal cancer and spent the last days of their short lives in Strathcarron Hospice receiving specialist palliative care. My gran has also been attending their day care unit for over 12 years now. They have given her an immense amount of care and support over the years. Strathcarron Hospice has helped my family through very difficult times for a number of years now and I feel it is time that I gave something back to them.
The Rickshaw Run has been paid for by myself and Gemma. All the money raised goes directly to our chosen charities. Not a penny will pay for our time in India.
