Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

My story is nothing compared to what most disabled people and athletes are going through to achieve their dreams. I am amazed by what they - from beginners to professionals - are able to do, most recently evidenced by the London Paralympics 2012.

I wish for many more disabled people to be able to participate in sports and hope that I in my racing will be able to help raise money to support them.

As for myself, I am one of the lucky ones. I have always been able to swim, bike and run and have done so for as long as I can remember. I have never been particularly fast but am able to maintain a good pace for many hours.

I had a goal of completing an Ironman before I turned 30.

However, too much travelling, airline food and hotels meant that the dream got lost. I gained quite a bit of weight and by my mid 30's I was completely out of shape. I looked myself in the mirror and decided it was time for a change. So gradually I went from being able to run 3K again to completing my first Ironman at Lanzarote - on my 40th birthday! Back to work and somewhat out of shape again...

It took another 6 years before I did my 2nd Ironman (Lanzarote 2011).

This year - 2012 - it's been full on! In parallel with a more than full time job I have completed 5 full Ironman distance races, including arguably the hardest one on earth: Norseman.

Now it's time to get faster - and I think I have got a reasonable chance of qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in the 45-49 agegroup! The goal is to qualify at Ironman Lanzarote 2013 on 18 May - 3 days before my 48th birthday.

Leading up to Lanzarote I plan to participate in a number of races (still to be decided upon).

Last but not least - what's my connection with Paralympics? My sister Dorte, actually!

Dorte has for several years worked with and helped disabled athletes achieve their dreams. Her greatest moment was when she guided the blind, Danish cross country skier Anne-Mette Bredahl to win medals at the Paralympics in Lillehammer, Norway 1994.
