PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE NOW CLOSED THIS SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN AND ARE NOW RAISING FUNDS FOR THE CHIRAH SEWING CENTRE IN PAKISTAN AND BRAILLE WITHOUT BORDERS IN TIBET - PLEASE GO TO.......

Following the disastrous floods in Pakistan in 2010 LVCF, a charity set up by Redspokes Adventure Tour cyclists, provided funding for emergency housing in Hussainabad. Last year (2012) we set up a sewing centre in Chirah to give local women a skill with which to earn an income, selling their textiles locally at market. This has been a great success, and we have recently sent further funds to provide an embroidery machine. We have also arranged for 2 experienced teachers to go out from the UK in May 2013 to teach children English and to pave the way for more teachers in the future.
Buoyed on by the success of these projects and the great appreciation and enthusiasm of the local community (and of Redspokes tour participants), we are now raising funds to provide an extension to the wonderful community-funded school in Datuchi in the Bagrote valley. The school is very popular locally and has grown in numbers over the years; children from 6 villages in the valley now travel to be taught there. The result is a chronic lack of space and children are taught outside without chairs, desks etc. The school is extremely well run by the local community self-help group but it lacks funds for this building extension - despite having recently tried to raise loans locally, without success.
As with all our campaigns, this project will be undertaken at minimal cost, with significant local community involvement and without payments to intermediaries. Any donations are very greatly appreciated, as are any offers of help with our projects.
