Story
The Lea ladies rowing squad are planning an ambitious row from our boathouse in Clapton, Hackney down the river Lea and along the Thames to Henley on Thames. Over 100km will take our boats through plenty of locks, through central London battling tides, past Twickenham, Hampton Court, through Maidenhead arriving at Henley Royal Regatta the morning 4 July, to paddle triumphantly down the course!
You can check out our planned route here to see just how far it is; https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zhtN8Wc_wHNs.k2oH1JSHy5Jw
As a relative newcomer to rowing (I started at the ripe old age of 38) and the ladies racing squad this will be quite a challenge for me so any donations will be very welcome. I've managed to get myself signed up for 2 days of rowing and a overnight stay on the floor of Walton rowing club with a 6am start the following day!
We are taking on this challenge to raise money for the clubs £1 million in
12 month target so major building works can be completed and Lea Rowing
Club can secure a new lease. Without this money the repairs won’t be completed
and the club will be under threat of closure. The new development will enable more people of all ages and abilities to row at the Lea.
Although the Lea RC is set to become a charity in its own right, there is still a bit of red-tape to get through...so at the moment, we are raising money for the charity Youth Experience in Sport, which give all funds to the redevelopment of the LEA RC.
