Story
This is a cause very close to my heart. Mental health affects us all, no one is immune. I have watched people I love suffer and I was actually diagnosed with postnatal depression after the birth of my beautiful baby girl almost 2 years ago and at that time, I genuinely didn’t know how/if I could ever move forward. I felt guilty. I was ashamed! But, I did move forward and I continue to do so! Unbeknownst to her, my daughter actually pulled me out of the darkest place I’ve ever been, as well as the love and support that I received from my amazing family and friends.
I won’t pretend to understand the utter devastation mental health can cause others, I can only talk of my own experience, but I do know that depression, and the symptoms associated with it, can be completely debilitating. It can consume and destroy lives. The stigma associated with mental health can also prevent you from opening up to those around you. But, it is important to know that is OK to not be OK. Don’t be afraid to confide in those you love and absolutely make use of organisations like AWARE.
