Story

The Kilted Chef Challenge 2011

This summer, on the 4th June, Craig Wilson (AKA ‘The Kilted Chef’) is attempting a Nationwide Cookathon, cooking is every major city in Scotland along with a few other locations in 24 hours!!  This in all in order to raise as much as we can for a new Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre in Aberdeen (www.maggiescentres.org), and to raise further funds for Breast Cancer Care Scotland (www.breastcancercare.org).

A Helicopter has been organised to fly Craig between each location and John Clark along with Bentleys are providing support with cars on the ground.  We also hope to link up with several high profile chefs/celebrities that are synonymous with each location, to assist at each location.  So far we have the support of Albert Roux, Lady Claire MacDonald, The First Minister (who will accompany Craig for the entire day), Lorraine Kelly, Jean-Christophe Nouvelli (via the Taste of Grampian event at Thainstone) and Jaqualine O'Donnell from 'The Hour'.

Locations to visit are as follows in order.

·

Udny Green 6:30:  The day will be kicked into action with a fitness regime on the green followed by a well deserved, simple yet satisfying breakfast!

Inverness 8:00:  I am holding an early business breakfast hosted by Norman Macdonald of Cafe 1, located in the city centre. The idea is to promote Inverness’s local produce in Norman’s classically styled yet informal venue.

Inverurie 10:00:  Next I’ll be at the ‘Taste of Grampian’ food and drink festival event at Thainstone.  I will be cooking with Michelin starred and 5AA rosette award winning French chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli, a true culinary great!  We aim to take the best of Inverness’s produce and then incorporate it into the best of what Grampian has to offer.

Aberdeen 12:30:  Then I’m off to Union Square shopping centre to perform a cooking demonstration outside in the civic square.  It is a whole day event which promises to provide an array of exciting entertainment involving contributions from the very popular restaurants in Union Square that we all love!

Dundee 14:30:  Venue number five is the Maggie’s centre located at Ninewells Hospital where a scrumptious afternoon tea will be cooked by way of demonstration.....but don’t worry.....there will be plenty of tasters!

Glasgow 16:30:  As it stands our venue is the Silverburn shopping centre where Craig will do another cooking demonstration to perhaps tide the hungry shoppers over before dinner time!

Stirling 18:00:  6 down...3 to go!!  Next location is the Riverhouse restaurant which sits at the loch side at the foot of the historic Stirling castle.  It’s a beautiful location, there will be delicious food....a lovely way to start your Saturday evening off!

Edinburgh 19:00:  This venue is on ‘the Michelin mile’ at the Laing’s Bathrooms, Bedrooms, Kitchens showroom, situated on the Leith waterfront.  Canapés and champagne will be served to accompany my last but not least demonstration!

Craig has set himself the goal of raising a whopping £60,000!!! We also need to raise a further £4,000 for the hire and running of the helicopter before the challenge (and Craig!) can really take off!

In terms of media, we aim to get nationwide coverage and are in talks with STV and The Hour.  The Press & Journal are dedicated to covering the North East aspects of the challenge and we aim to get pocketed coverage in each location to build awareness on the lead up to get as much funding as we can on the day.

There is great scope for sponsor advertising; either for individual legs of the journey or for you own branding on the display/stand and the clothing Craig wears on the day.  There will also be plenty opportunity to raffle and/or auction prizes/packages.

The event is two months away and a lot of details are yet to be confirmed but we are all dedicated to not only make it happen but to make is a success.  Craig’s talent and enthusiasm for this ambitious challenge and everything it is capable of achieving for these fantastic charities is rather infectious!

If you are able to help us in any way we would be most grateful.
