Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've been working with Medair for a couple of years now, firstly in Somaliland and now in Afghanistan. Medair is really focused on bringing life saving support and helping to relieve the suffering of some of the most vulnerable and the hardest to reach communities in the world.
In Afghanistan where I am currently based we are helping to provide clean water, build latrines, reduce diarahea in under 5's, increase the food supply for household, prevent flooding which destroys houses and crops and help the communities to become stronger and more resilient.
Afghanistan has had over 3 decades of war and is still suffering the consequences from this. In 2014 the international troops will be withdrawing and there is a lot of uncertaintity about the future. We are all used to Afghanistan appearing on our news channels but as the troops pull out, most likely the news will turn to focus on other issues and this country could very quickly become a forgotten crisis.
All the Afghan's I've met have been hugely welcoming and kind. I have seen that for most all they really want is to live their lives in peace, supporting their families with basic needs such as food, clean water and health. As the Medair team in Afghanistan we are doing all we can to help the communities achieve this. All the money raised through this webpage will go towards the Medair Afghanistan programme.
I've worked in various African countries, including Kenya and my dream has always been to climb Kilimanjaro. As an asthmatic I wasn't sure it would be possible, but after climbing Mount Kenya a few years ago I knew I had to give it a go and tackle Kilimanjaro. I hope that through this expedition and challenge I can help raise funds and keep the struggles and challenges of the wonderful afghan people on the hearts and minds of those back home.
Thank you so much for your support!
