Story
Hello I am Khandie Khisses. For most of you, that name may mean something. Be it the photographer me (http://www.KhandiePhotography.com) or the burlesque superstar (haha said with tongue in cheek I swear) me (http://www.KhandieKhisses.com). My career has literally taken me all over the world, I have performed for celebrities across the globe, and featured in films shown world wide...
However some of you may not know that last year I suffered two TIAs. These are mini strokes. Their effect on me were anything but mini. I was devastated but still went on stage 6 days later to two standing ovations. That moment as the crowd roared I realised how bloody lucky I was, to not only make people smile but that I could so easily have not been there.
Strokes are more common than you realise, TIAs can affect everyone from new born babies to the elderly. The fit, the not so fit, male or female. It is not a discriminating affliction.
Being one not to take things laying down, I have decided to run the Northampton Half Marathon this September.
Its only a few miles 13...21km. May not seem very far for some of you. But if I added my two TIAs, a military career ending back injury that needs weekly manipulation to ensure it does not worsen and a few other health issues....I am game for this challenge.
I am really pushing myself to not just complete this marathon but actually run it. Not walk it. Not crawl it. RUN IT. I dont care about my time. This is about a personal challenge, to not give up, to not give in and to keep going.
Roll on 6th September 2015. Northampton.
So many among us will face stroke in our lifetime. I just want to do something to help it end, to research to help recovery and make a difference.
