Fundraising for Kidney Research UK
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! If you have come this far... Then hopefully you would like to donate and find out a little more about why I am raising money for this charity.
Firstly, if you know me well, you will know that up until about four weeks ago I absolutely hated running! However , this has changed dramatically through my training and I am really starting to enjoy it!
A half marathon is going to be a huge challenge for me, but one I want to achieve for myself personally and to raise money for a charity very close to my heart.
About five years ago now, I was diagnosed with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. A genetic kidney disease whereby your kidneys become filled with cysts and eventually affect the functioning of your kidneys.
More recently, I underwent genetic testing and found that I have type one , which is usually earlier onset in terms of its progression.... So what does this mean!?
Effectively, my kidneys may eventually stop working so well, and I will probably need some assistance... Maybe dialysis or even a transplant.... But we remain super positive, as some people end up not requiring this level of intervention and their kidneys continue to work ok.
I also have a great doctor and I am hopefully going to be one of the lucky ones trying out a new drug to delay the onset of this disease.
The teams of doctors have been amazing, monitoring me and our son so very closely , I cannot speak highly enough of the care we have received from the amazing and talented NHS doctors!
So, I want to give something back and raise money for a charity that means a great deal to us as a family!
If you can, please donate some money, fifty pence or pound will add up if lots of you lovely lot chip in..... And as soon as the money starts coming in, I am officially obliged to actually run this thing!!! (Which terrifies me!! ;-)).
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this...
Wish me luck!!!
I'm gonna need it!!!!!
Kelly x :-)
