Hello!  Thank you for visiting our page.  We are Kelly Jo Hearsey and Mandy Bocker and we are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.  Please take a moment to read our stories…and don't forget to watch our video blogs where you can follow us on our journey right from the start.

KELLY'S STORY
In August last year my dear friends lost their beautiful seven year old son Taylan to a rare form of brain tumour.  Taylan was such a bright spark, full of smiles and laughter.  He was also my son Jay's classmate and we shared lots of lovely times together as families.  In January 2010 Taylan's family set up a Brain Tumour Research umbrella group and founded Taylan's Project. Please visit www.taylansproject.com so that we can raise awareness for such an important cause.

In my kitchen one morning I suddenly decided that I would climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.  At the time I could barely climb the stairs without getting out of breath.  But if you're going to challenge yourself whilst raising money why not get extreme about it?  I am training daily and feel so much better already.  Now, I didn't feel like hauling my bottom up there on my own so who better to ask along than rock hard ex-squaddie herself, my good old pal Mandy Bocker!  I summoned her, asked her, she almost fainted.  Then I told her that I was climbing for Taylan and that was enough.  Kelly-Mand-jaro was born.

I'll keep you all up to date with our progress and will be posting videos & photos of our whole journey, from training right to the summit.  And I know Taylan will be there at the top waiting for us with one of his beautiful smiles.

MANDY'S STORY
When I got the call from Kelly telling me she had something important to ask me, I could never have imagined it would be to climb Kilimanjaro with her!  My initial reaction was one of absolute terror and apprehension to say the least!  However, once she told me about Taylan's Project and the charity involved, that terror and apprehension soon turned into a great desire to do this and help in anyway I could.

Yes the thought of climbing a mountain nearly 6000 metres above sea level is a scary one, but that fear pales into insignificance compared to what Taylan, his family and many others like them have had to go through - a few days of pain and suffering is a small price to pay for the good that can come from it.

We have paid the deposit for the hike ourselves and are also self-funding the necessary equipment, insurance, visas and jabs.  We need to raise £1770 each to cover flights and the hike itself.  Everything else that we raise will go directly to Brain Tumour Research, bringing hope to brain tumour patients of better treatments and ultimately of a cure.

So to all our friends, family, colleagues, associates and anyone else that takes the time to read this and find out more about the charity, please help make this happen and please give what you can..
