Story

A little about us:

Our first loss was confirmed to be a Complete Molar Pregnancy and we had toendure a tense, anxious and stressful time as I underwent 6 months of follow-uptesting, before we were given the all-clear to try again.

We are raising money in memoryof our four lost little lives.

What is a Molar Pregnancy?

Molar pregnancies are fairly rare, happening with approximately 1 case forevery 700-1000 pregnancies in the UK. When a molar pregnancy arises, a problemoccurs at the time of conception that results in the formation of pre-cancerouscells that grow very rapidly. Very few people have heard of a Molar Pregnancyand therefore it receives little attention.

Why are we raising money for the CancerTreatment and Research Trust (Charing Cross Hospital)?

There is still little knowledge of whatcauses a Molar Pregnancy, the process of diagnosis is lengthy and it is notknown when it is safe to stop monitoring patients post treatment. The team atCharing Cross Hospital are striving to improve the services provided topatients and families. They are currently pioneering for special technologythat would allow them to diagnose sooner, by establishing whether or not cellswill remain benign or turn cancerous. This would obviously eliminate a timely, costly process of regular monitoring and most importantly reduce the anguishfor both patients and families. This would make a huge difference and allowfuture patients to get back to their usual lives far sooner. For moreinformation please visit: www.hmole-chorio.org.uk
