On the 21st of December 2015, I sat in my oncologist's room, prepared for the worst possible news. Ignoring the small talk, I looked up and saw a photo of my oncologist cross country jumping, and chastised myself for having neglected a hobby which I had been so passionate about, and prayed that I would be lucky enough to ride again.  Moments later, I was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer and went on to undergo an intense course of treatment - chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and brackytherapy - at the Royal Marsden Chelsea. In the weeks and months that followed my treatment, horses played an important role in my emotional and physical recovery.

Thanks to the incredible care I received at the Royal Marsden, I am thrilled to be riding in the Wimbledon Village Stables 2016 Sponsored Ride - a 10 mile course, in fancy dress, across  Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park - this month, in support of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Whilst I aim to support the charity financially from this endeavor, I am also doing it to share a positive story and to thank my medical team - my oncologist Jane Bridges and Dr Alex Taylor and her team at the Royal Marsden Chelsea - for the professionalism and immense warmth and kindness they showed me, from my first appointment last year, through to getting the all clear in June.  

The Royal Marsden Charity: To support the Royal Marsden is to invest in a future beyond cancer for you and everyone you know. Donations go to fund pioneering work in cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and care to improve the lives of patients at The Royal Marsden and people with cancer throughout the UK and beyond. 

Wimbledon Village Stables:  For the past 40 years, Carol and Caroline from Wimbledon Village Stables, have been running an annual sponsored ride, which is the longest running and most successful sponsored ride in the country, raising more than £500,000 over the years.
