Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is my second attempt at the Great Manchester 10k. I did okay last year, so I'm hoping that I will survive this year as well. I'm running with the Purple Wave - more than 1000 people from the University of Manchester - students and staff united to raise funds for the Children's Hospital. I haven't been able to squeeze as much training in as I'd hoped, but that's just a minor challenge compared to what some families have to face.
In my work I have a lot of contact with doctors caring for babies with a
rare disease called congenital hyperinsulinism. The babies make too
much of the hormone insulin which controls blood sugar levels and this
can cause dangerously low blood sugars. The children receive excellent
care at the Manchester Children's Hospital and I am running to raise
funds for research on this rare disease. I am running on behalf of the
families touched by congenital hyperinsulinism, to raise awareness of
the disease and the great work that Manchester Children's Hospital do.
