Story
The zip wire event is being organised by Girlguiding UK North West and takes place in Salford Quays. Ths zip wire will be suspended across the ship canal (yikes!) between the Imperial War Museum and the Lowry Theatre.
So who am I raising funds for? Well, in 2010 my Mum was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome. Sjogren's is an autoimmune disease which affects approximately 1/2 million people in the UK and 9 out of 10 sufferers are female. It is a condition where the body's immune system starts attacking parts of the body iinstead of fighting infection. The secretary glands develop a form of inflammation and as a result of this these glands stop working which leads to dry eyes, dry mouth, dry skin and dryness of the gastrointestinal tract. As well as being uncomfortbale nad unpleasant this means that sufferers have difficulty swallowing foods and may suffere from IBS. Other symptoms include muscle or joint aches and and an overwhleming fatigue.
The BSSA is a charity that aims to raise awareness of Sjogrens Syndrome, support sufferers and support research into it's cause and treatment and I hope to acheive my goal of £300 to by doing this mad zip wire challenge!
