Story
I am running the Brussels20km race for the 7th year as a way to raise awareness and funds for GiraffeProject -providing sponsorship and support for the education of children living in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya.
This year I run in memory of my mother Ursula Koenemann who died a year ago age 96. I received news of her worsening condition literally minutes before my start at the 2018 Brussels 20k for Giraffe Project so instead of running I rushed back to Germany to be with her for her final hours.
I have been supporting the GiraffeProject (http:\\www.giraffeproject.org) for many years. I know the founders Denise & Richard Baines personally and I serve on the current board of trustees so I know this charity and the good work it does very well and I am confident that your donations will be put to good use.
I have been in Nairobi, Kenya in 2012 and 2017 in person -to see for myself how large the need is and how GiraffeProject is doing a very good job in providing educational opportunities through sponsorship of children and youth, health support, teacher education and by building up the Giraffe Education Center.
My goal this year is to raise 1.000 Euros - which is 50 Euro per km. All the costs for joining and carrying out the race will be covered by myself, so that all funds go directly and 100% to the charity.
