Story
Yemen is one of the poorest, most politically unstable yet one of the most strategically important countries, situated right on the Bab Al Mandeb where most of the world's oil passes. It is also one of the most forgotten about countries, despite its civil war, relentless conflict and high poverty and death rates. The victims are often children. It is estimated that between April and August 2015, nearly 400 children have been killed and over 600 injured.
Across the country, nearly 10 million children – 80 per cent of the country’s under-18 population – are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. More than 1.3 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
Schools are constantly being closed, vital health services threatened and levels of severe malnutrition are alarmingly rising.
Perhaps most shockingly, the number of children being recruited as soldiers is not diminishing. Some estimate that boys younger than 18 form nearly A THIRD of the Houthi rebel force.
