Story
Hi and thanks for visiting my page.
Cameroon Catalyst is a student run charity by Southampton University Civil Engineers with help from other students too. The students design, fundraise-for and build (with employed locals) projects in Cameroon each year. Past projects in recent years include a medical centre, 2 school classrooms, a skills workshop (for carpentry, etc.) and a solar-powered electricity hub, which is being used to power fridges in the medical centre and encourage micro-businesses in the village.
I've joined together with a few friends to help raise money for this years Cameroon Catalyst project, which is the design and construction of improved houses for two nurses in the village of Bambouti, Cameroon.
The focus of these houses is on improved structure and health through design, with the target of making design drawings that include details such as the fitting of mosquito nets to window frames, how and why to cement floors to improve cleaning and reduce bacterial infections, making ventilated improved pit latrines, using rainwater harvesting off tin roofs and improved thatching techniques. By doing so, the hope is that these improvements will be replicable and available to the wider community, improving the health of a lot of people for a just little, working closely with local people.
One of the ways we're fundraising is through a sponsored swim on the 30th May, where we hope to average a huge 200 lengths (5km) per person. Any of you that know me well will know swimming isn't exactly one of my strengths, so 200 lengths will be a challenge. Any donations would be greatly appreciated, even if you take it as 1 pence per length it will go a long way, and as we are running the project we can ensure that every penny raised goes directly to the project.
Thanks for taking the time to visit and thanks for your donations.
