Never one for the quiet life, I am about to embark on two legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The race involves 12 crews of 20 amateur sailors, racing identical 70 foot yachts over 40,000 nautical miles.
This year I am taking part in the third leg of the race, which starts in Cape Town and finishes, 5575 miles later, in Albany, W. Australia. We will be crossing the Southern Ocean and it's likely we will be experiencing 80 foot swells and gale force storms of up to 70mph. And if I make it back in one piece, I'll be doing it all again next summer, across the Atlantic in leg 8. You can get a glimpse of what life on board will be like here:
I was really proud to be allocated to the crew of the good ship Unicef. Unicef is the Clipper Race's official charity. We are aiming to raise awareness of Unicef's work to do whatever it takes until every child around the world is safe from preventable disease, hunger, violence and abuse.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
