Story
What was it Bob Geldoff said at Live Aid? Well, imagine that plus some. Simon on the Streets is an amazing charity run by amazing people who do loads with very little. No funding from the government (like most charities) and no big marketing budgets to raise awareness of what they do. Not a lot really, other than passionate, committed people.
So - here I am - on my very own little crusade to make a difference, no matter how small.
I'll be rough sleeping on their sponsored sleep out on 29th September 2011. This will involve walking the streets with someone who has been in the situation of having no choice but to sleep rough, then hunkering down in a doorway somewhere with a cardboard box and an old blanket. Put it this way, it's not going to be 5*! they've offered us hot sandwiches at 7:00am as some form of incentive to make it through the night - I am sure it'll work.
I'm looking for support from anyone and everyone who has an ounce of empathy for people who find it difficult to engage with society in the way that we take for granted. Imagine being out of work and not having any belief in social services and the other support networks that are out there. It's hard, I know. However there are people out there like this. I have met some of them and, contrary to some pre(mis)conceptions, they aren't all un-educated, un-intelligent, violent, rude characters.
If you're like me and believe that everyone has potential and that we should all do our bit as the more fortunate people in society to help out then I am sure you can find a few quid to donate here.
Take a look at the following links if you still need some convincing...
