Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running the Great South Run to help Grace to walk. Please read on.

This fundraising is now urgent as the £50,000 needs to be raised by December.

Grace’s Fund in partnership with the Tree of Hope children’s charity.

Grace Windram is a bright 5 year-old girl who lives in Kingsthorpe,
Northampton. She has Cerebral Palsy and cannot walk, and only learned to crawl late last year. She has used a powered wheelchair since she was 2 years old.

Grace is very frustrated by her impaired mobility, often saying “I want to walk with my own feet” (as opposed to ‘walking’ in her power chair), just like her school friends. Despite intensive specialist physiotherapy, this has always seemed impossible, but now she has been given some hope.

Grace has been accepted for an operation in the US called Selective
Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which could eliminate the spasticity (tightness) in her legs. Coupled with further intensive physiotherapy, this procedure could see Grace walking with a walking frame, and maybe even walk short distances on her own.

As well as making her dream of walking come true, the operation brings many health benefits and would prevent or delay other side effects of her condition (such as joint pain, early arthritis, growth deformities etc).

The operation, along with related expenses and therapy, costs around £50,000. Grace’s family are working with the Tree of Hope children’s charity to raise this money and help Grace’s dream come true.

The Tree of Hope Children's Charity offers hope to the families of sick and disabled UK children who need specialist surgery or additional medical treatment and therapy, in order to save their lives, and to give a better quality of life, and to help free them from suffering, by funding the treatment required.
