Story
In April 2013 my sister Geraldine got the devastating news that she had secondary breast cancer, having only just come through 6 years of treatment. Her brave battle inspired me to take on a challenge to raise money for a breast cancer charity, and in the process opened my eyes to the urgent need for more research into this indiscriminate disease, which kills 12,000 women (and a few men) every year in the UK - that's more than 30 every single day.
In April 2014 I completed the Brighton Marathon alongside my friend Martin, and together we raised nearly £8,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign, a superb charity with which I have become closely involved over the past 18 months. Having had a few months break, I'm now highly motivated to take on an even bigger challenge to support my lovely sister as she goes through a new level of treatment, and in September 2015 I will compete in the Hever Castle Triathlon, the climax of the Castle triathlon series (at the full Olympic distance - 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run), aiming to raise even more so that Breast Cancer Campaign can continue to fund vital research projects, which will one day ensure that cancer is not the huge killer that it now is.
I've seen at first hand the effect that breast cancer has on family and friends, and through my fundraising efforts have come across so many people who have been affected, directly or indirectly, by some form of cancer. Breast Cancer Campaign treats this aspect of the disease very seriously, and does brilliant work in raising awareness of these issues and providing support to all those affected by it.
I'm really grateful for your support, and if you can spare a few pounds to help me on my way I'd really appreciate it, but more importantly, you'd be directly funding essential research projects which may just provide the breakthrough we need.
