We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

On Sunday I shall be taking part in the Time Megeve - Mont Blanc cycling sportive. It is so called because if you complete the course, you will have climbed the same height as the altitude of Mont Blanc, 4810m.

If that were not foolish enough, with type 1 diabetes, I have the added challenge of managing my blood sugars as well. Get those wrong and it is all over.

Last year was fantastic thanks the huge support everyone gave. This year, I am raising money to enable newly diagnosed children with diabetes to attend courses to help them manage their disease.

In the UK, 80% of children with diabetes fail to meet the NHS targets for their control. As a result they signficantly increase the likelihood of further serious medical complications. By way of example, diabetes is the biggest cause of blindness and foot amputations, accounting for well over 3/4 of both.

As a trustee and vice chair of Diabetes UK, I commit to you that every penny donated will go directly to funding children who otherwise would not be able to obtain such vital education because of a lack of funds.

Your support is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

John
