Story
If I haven't spoken to you recently then here's a little background to what I'm up to. After an application form and selection day, I've been lucky enough to be selected for the International Citizen's Service (ICS) programme. Funded by the Department for International Development, ICS sends young people, 18-25, to work on development projects for 3 months with respected development agencies (see http://ics-uk.org.uk for more details, plus this rather cheesy video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q3qR__QX1I&feature=related).
From October I'll be working with Restless Development, a respected agency working with and for young people. Having worked with young people before (and hopefully still counting as one myself!) I'm a strong supporter of Restless' efforts to empower young people to take a prominent role in leading the kind of development they want to see. I'm going to be working in a Youth Resource Centre (YRC) in Odisha, India; running workshops on employment skills and health awareness for young people in the local community.
Whilst ICS covers all the volunteer's costs (flights, accommodation, food etc) each volunteer is expected to fundraise £800 which goes towards ensuring the programme stays affordable for future volunteers. I've just finished my Living Below the Line event, but I'm still a little short of my fundraising target so your support would mean a lot and be greatly appreciated.
ICS is my chance to put this degree in Global Development to good use, gain some practical experience, and hopefully have a great time in the process! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
