Story
Mind Your Step is a long distance charity walk that has been established in memory of Jamie Margetts who sadly lost his battle against a long term mental health illness in October 2016, at the age of 41 years old. The first Mind Your Step event is scheduled to take place on June 17th 2017.
For 20 years Jamie commuted from Sheffield to Derby on a daily basis, and the idea behind this challenge is to walk his daily commute in around 16hrs. As the M1 and A38 didn't seem very appealing, the walk follows a 45 mile stretch of the River Derwent starting from the Ladybower Reservoir and finishing at the Cathedral Green in Derby City Centre. This encompasses a vast and varied terrain as well as a number of historic sites which seemed a fitting replacement.
In addition to remembering the legacy left by Jamie, the Challenge aims to; raise awareness of the struggles faced by people with mental health illnesses on a daily basis, to encourage participation in exercise for the mental health benefits it brings and raise money for Mind, the mental health charity.
