I have the opportunity to do an adventure few are lucky enough (or insane enough) to try.   I'm taking a sabbatical, from teaching this year, to sail in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race around the world.

Having reached that age where the bones start to ache a little more and the years of hedonism  have finally caught up, I decided to do
“something completely different” (as Monty Python would say). 

To complete the full circumnavigation is one of the most challenging endurance events on the planet!

I will be sailing over 40,000 nautical miles, crossing the equator twice, the international date line, multiple oceans, and visiting 6 continents over 11 months. This will be a demanding challenge for our international crew with storms, mountainous waves, extremes of temperature, wind, and sea state, in a wet, leaning, exhausting environment! The first leg from the UK to Uruguay starts from London September 1, 2019.

Partnering up with UNICEF UK,  the Clipper race team has pledged to donate £33,000 per ship (11 ships are participating in the race).  With an average crew of around 60 people who will race either legs or the full Monty of around the world, we each need to support this goal.
