Story
I've been thinking about the charity Special Effect, and how to quantify what they do compared to the endless charities that support noble causes across the world.
When I think back to my childhood, computer games played a massive part of shaping how I saw the world. The ability to switch on a machine and suddenly find myself a intergalactic hero pogo-sticking across an alien planet, a strategic leader helping a throng of needy creatures find their way home, or even a Page-Saviour, rescuing lost words and returning them to a speech-starved world was incredible.
Imagine then, how much more empowering and exciting it would be to become such a character when interacting with the physical world is made harder through a disability.
So while it's easy to dismiss such a cause as being inconsequential compared to issues of poverty, education and abuse, the truth is that the quality of these kids lives can be improved a tonne through the work that Special Effect are doing.
