Story
Last week I took part in and completed the Big Walk 2019! I did the 23 mile walk from Bamford, over Derwent Edge, down to Bradfield and then up (via Our Cow Molly!) back into Sheffield.
I don't know how it happened, but I started off at the front (never sit at the front of the bus!!) and managed to maintain a fast pace throughout (thanks to a lovely couple who walked with me!) - we crossed the finish line at the University Arms at 3.40 which was under 7.5 hours from start to finish (including breaks!).
I appreciate there are many calls on our money at the moment, but this year we are fundraising for student scholarships to give as many students as possible the opportunity to study at the University of Sheffield. Scholarships are vital to reduce barriers for bright students from disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to have a university education. Students who are from lower-income backgrounds often have to turn to loans to cover the cost of living, which can leave these students with debts £50,000 or more. Fear of these debts can discourage both prospective undergraduates and bright graduates from pursuing further study.
