We stand for everyone affected by dementia to find a cure

Story

Many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  My plan is to continue to raise a huge amount of money primarily for the Alzheimer Research Trust, and provide some much-needed equipment for a small local group that has been of great help to me over the past couple of years. We had a FABULOUS day, a sensational team effort and I am so proud of the Crew and how they helped me achieve a dream..we rowed  a distance of 20 miles upstream and 7 locks, with barely a blister and no crabs..

The Crew :  my son Magnus, nephews Calum and Fergus and brother Colin, Alex Angus, Michael Baines, Jonathan Baines, Christopher Blount, Christopher Daws, Martin Fitzgerald (Cox), Andrew Gordon, Rory Mann, Robert Marsden, Hugh Matheson, Peregrine Moncreiffe, Tony Pooley, Hugh Sturgis.  Roz Graham was our attendant medic and our Chef d'Equipe, Jonathan Seddon-Brown.  They were/are all stars!  We were also helped by many others along the way..so please see the website:  www.forgetmenotrow.com for more pics and details of who, what, where and when.

In 2007 I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, since when I have been doing my best to keep it at bay by taking as much exercise as possible.  I bike 5 miles every day to get the newspaper, play tennis once a week, walk the dogs for an hour every day and am still putting in a few thousand metres on my rowing machine - just to keep my oar in..!  Not to mention the Wednesday walks around Wiltshire with the Forget-me-not Group of fellow sufferers in Swindon.

A new report commissioned by the Alzheimer's  Research Trust reveals that over 820,000 people in the U.K. have dementia, costing the economy £23 billion a year, while research into the cause of Dementia is appallingly under-funded compared with other illnesses. Thankfully there is quite a lot more awareness of this at the moment, which is why I want to take this opportunity to raise as much money as possible.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
