FOR DEBBIE
On 21 September, my brother and I will begin the biggest physical challenge of our lives - cycling 270 miles from London to Paris.
I am 62 years-of-age and Nick is 61 and although we endeavour to exercise a few hours a week to try and stay reasonably fit; this challenge doesn’t just raise the bar; it puts it into orbit.
Together, we are undertaking this challenge in honour of my beautiful and loving wife Debbie, who tragically passed away in 2019 aged 56. She was beloved by her family and friends and will forever be in our hearts and minds. Her daughters Sara and Jerry especially miss her every day and our lives will never be the same. We talk about her daily and are thankful for your help in raising money and awareness.
Debbie was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2015 and for four years fought her own world war against the disease. She underwent major surgery and various other medical procedures; endured many rounds of chemotherapy; took a cocktail of daily drugs; experienced a multitude of debilitating side-effects; and spent innumerable stays in hospital.
However, and regardless of the disease’s devastating impact, Debbie remained her-self - fun-loving, sensitive, caring, adventurous and stylish. Brave beyond belief and possessing an inspirational strength of character.
Amongst her numerous and wide-ranging interests, Debbie was a supporter of Ovarian Cancer Action, and it is for this charity that we are striving to raise as much money as possible.
Despite complaining to her GP for many years of the four main symptoms of ovarian cancer, she was mis-diagnosed as having ‘women’s problems.’ So please, if you or any women you know experience persistent stomach pain; persistent bloating; difficulty eating/ feeling full more quickly; and/ or needing to wee more often - demand to be checked out immediately! Early detection can and will save lives.
Thank you for your time and attention and we hope you will consider spreading the word and supporting our efforts, so that we can help maximise funding for this incredible charity and thereby raise awareness and understanding of the symptoms. .
