Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello, my name is Jake and I am 5 years old. I was born 5 ½ weeks early and after a short stay in SCBU I went home to live with my Mummy and Daddy.
When I was 1 ½ my Mummy and Daddy were told that I had Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and the doctors were not sure if I would ever be able to walk. As I grew up I could weight bear and I could step but unfortunately due to the high tone in my legs and especially my inner thigh muscles my legs scissored severely and it stops me from walking.
I also suffer pain in my muscles and problems with my tummy from my Cerebral Palsy. Mummy and Daddy took me to different therapies in the hope that the scissoring would get a bit better but unfortunately even though it helped a little bit the scissoring did not go away.
One day Daddy heard about a new procedure called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, SDR for short, which would remove a lot of the high tone and scissoring and would mean that I could probably walk one day and would live pain free.
Unfortunately SDR is not routinely funded by the NHS at the moment and so Mummy and Daddy have decided to start fund raising to try to get me the surgery that I need to help me.
We need to fund raise a total of £35000.00 for Jake to have SDR surgery in the UK and additional Physiotherapy for two years to ensure that the surgery is as beneficial as possible. Please give what you can however big or little, it is all very much appreciated.
