Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2013, Dad developed slurred speech. Little did we know, this was the beginning of a terminal illness, and less than a year after onset, he wouldn't be with us any more. He had motor neurone disease. With the disease being quite rare, his closest 'MND centre' was in Birmingham, and with Dad deteriorating rapidly, it was too much for him to travel this distance for appointments, and so he was seen on a regular basis at St. Michael's Hospice, where he was offered all the support he could have ever needed. When the time came, Dad was admitted to the hospice for his final days, and the care provided was truly the best I have ever seen. Dad was kept as comfortable as possible in this time, and as family we were offered a place to stay, so that we could remain with him. The staff were only too happy to spend their time giving us the support that we needed, too- answering our questions, explaining things to us and generally making an awful situation a little more bearable. I'll never be able to thank the hospice enough, for making Dad's last days with us as dignified as they could be. They really are a very special team of people.
St. Michael's Hospice costs a staggering £12,000 per day to run, with only 10% of this coming from government sources- meaning voluntary donations really are vital to keep it running. Please donate what you can, to such a worthy cause. It would mean such a lot, and every penny really does add up.
