Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be walking both the Liverpool and Manchester Memory Walks whilst Annette will walk the Liverpool one as she is away for the Manchester Walk. We both have joint and back issues which makes this doubly hard. Plus we're both chubsters!
We're walking as our mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease last year and we have slowly seen her start to fade away. She's unable to take any medication for the disease as she's reacted badly to each one with severe headaches. There are only 4 different medications. 4. Imagine there only being 4 different types of pain killers and you're allergic to each one and you've got raging toothache. There is a severe lack of understanding about dementia which is why research is vital. We can only sit back and watch as this disease slowly robs us of our mum and we can do nothing to slow it down.
So please sponsor us so that more medications might be found and although it will probably come too late for our mum, it will perhaps help your children in the future.
We are also walking in memory of Sir Terry Pratchett who passed away from a form of dementia (or an embuggerence as he called it) shortly before mum was diagnosed last year. He campaigned tirelessly for the Alzheimer's Society and I want to do the same in his name. His books have been a constant companion to Annette and myself for many years and his wit a humour often got us through the bad times. #speakhisname
