Story
On Sunday, May 28th, I will be participating in the Great Manchester 10K as part of the University of Manchester's 'Purple Wave' initiative. I will be running for Cancer Research UK to support the incredible work this charity does in order to improve the lives of people, diagnosed with cancer in the UK.
Here is my story. :)
A few years ago, I suffered the loss of my closest relative and friend, my grandmother, who lost her life to colorectal cancer. Ever since then, I promised to myself and to her that I will try to help stop this disease from taking away more lives of innocent people, people that are someone else's family. Taking part in this run and raising money for Cancer Research UK will get me somewhat closer to achieving my goal and bring me the contentment from helping those in need and supporting this great cause.
I chose to support Cancer Research UK as it is among the world's leading charities, whose aim is to beat this awful disease through research. The charity is continuously discovering new methods by which cancer can be prevented, diagnosed, and treated.Recent statistics show that cancer survival in the UK has doubled (from 24% to nearly 50%) over the last 40 years, which only proves how efficient those newly developed methods are (Quaresma et al., 2015)*. If research continues to be so successful, a cure to cancer might be the newest discovery in the next 70-80 years. This is just briefly the reason I support Cancer Research UK!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Fundraising is hugely important to Cancer Research UK. The charity would not exist without the support of people, who are climbing mountains, baking cookies, running marathons, and organising all kinds of events in order to donate money for a noble cause.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you for your time and support! :)
