Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Despite my dodgy knees and various other old football injuries I'm going to run 4 miles for the charity I work for...because I know it's worth it.

Many young people live in financially deprived areas and some Nottingham children have all the attributes they need to be successful in life.  Raising this money will enable us to give two Nottingham young people, who are not in education or employment, the chance to go to Cape Town and improve their skills whilst helping disadvantaged children in Cape Town too.  They will benefit from a life-changing experience and learn the skills they need to find a job when they return.

We will also fund a local person in Cape Town for one year to continue this work after our two young people have left.

This is a great win-win project.  The two young people from Nottingham will develop top skills and qualities to show off in their CVs and the children in Cape Town will benefit from sports coaching, courtesy of Notts County FC.

I greatly appreciate all the support that Notts County’s fans and everyone from Nottingham have always shown me and I’m sure they will donate generously on the day too.

This will be a very important day to see if we can raise £5,000 to help change lives.

Football in the Community say:

"43 year old Notts County curry lover, Ian Richardson, is set to take part in a sponsored run to raise money for Football in the Community’s FC Africa project. The sports charity are looking to raise £5,000 that will be spent on sending two NEET Nottingham volunteers out to Cape Town for 3 months to work on local sports projects through international charity Coaching for Hope, as well as a sponsorship for a Cape Town national. Ex-defender and Caretaker Manger Richardson, known by County fans as Ricco and Richo by work colleagues, will whip out his old training gear to take part in the Notts themed run.

"Taking place on Saturday 26th April before the Notts v Swindon game, the 4 mile challenge will start at the Magpies current training ground at Highfield’s in Beeston, then going onto Nottingham Castle/Park Hollow (the Magpies first training ground in where they were established in 1862). The finish line with be at current County Ground, Meadow Lane Stadium."
